CHOREOGRAPHY

Through dance, I have learned to access and shape my identity and my power. Dance is how I learn, express, and heal.  Through my practice I access the embodied knowledge of my ancestors; value systems I use to maneuver the world. I use contemporary dance and dances of the African Diaspora to more fully understand how to live.

TEACHING

CONTEMPORARY AFRO CARIBBEAN

This workshop examines the ways African rooted dances of the Caribbean can inform the essence and personality of contemporary modern and urban US dance. This fusion class will use traditional folklore movements that represent play, passageways, flow and freedom as a base to color and inform modern dance warm up, across the floor combinations and choreography.

DANCE IN SCHOOLS

Styles: Afro Caribbean (Cuba and Haiti); House; Hip Hop; Modern; US Social Dance

From single workshops to multi-session residencies students are exposed to the richness of the African Diaspora.  Classes begin with learning the history and cultural contexts of the dances.  Students are then challenged to build body awareness and critical thinking skills through the technique of the dance.   Residencies will build students confidence by developing performance skills with a culminating performance.
